Everardo Ruiz, PhD - Venture Partner, IP Transactions, Valuation and Financing

Everardo Ruiz specializes in Intellectual Property investment and monetization, IP investment funds for Economic Development with Sovereign Wealth Funds, and IP Strategy for governments and industrial clients. He brings his nearly 25 years of North America, Asia, and Europe experience to focus on information technologies (IT) along with automotive, petrochemical, and energy-related sectors. Previously, Dr. Ruiz was with the world’s largest patent investment fund, Intellectual Ventures (IV), where he directed patent investments that drove the bulk of the funds’ investment returns. Previous to patent investment and monetization with IV, Everardo was with Intel Capital where he invested in wireless, telecom, and semiconductor startups such as Peregrine, Semiconductor (IPO; now NASDAQ: PSMI), Lightconnect (acq. by Neophotonics; NYSE: NPTN), Lytek (acq. by Triton), K2 Optronics and Corona Optical Systems (acq. by Emcore; NASDAQ: EMKR). He also held investment, management, product development, and intellectual property roles at Texas Instruments (TI). At TI Everardo championed investment in SnapTrack (acq. by Qualcomm; NASDAQ: QCOM), helped drive TI’s 3G and 2G patent portfolios, and developed wireless chipsets for handsets from Motorola, Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, and LG. Dr. Ruiz also engineered radio-frequency drive and control systems for particle accelerators while with Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the Superconducting Super Collider. Everardo started his career in genetically modified organism (GMO) rapeseed R&D at Calgene (IPO; later acq. by Monsanto; NYSE: MON).

Dr. Ruiz received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas, his MS in Management and Engineering from the MIT Sloan School of Management and MIT School of Engineering, an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Davis.

Besides his time inventing, monetizing IP, and helping with startups, Everardo enjoys spending time with family and friends. He also likes to find time alone out on the water rowing. He is also a member of the IAM 300 – The World’s 300 Leading IP Strategists.
